Tools available

JBA’s Global Flood Model is the first of its kind, offering the unique ability to assess flood risk at any location in the world. Underpinned by FLY Technology, the model offers unprecedented flexibility and can be adjusted to meet specific needs, including the incorporation of additional local data. The model can be used to assess a variety of flood impacts, including population affected, economic costs, and damage to infrastructure.

The model can also be combined with Flood Foresight, JBA’s flood forecasting system, to help predict the impacts of upcoming flood events.

How can JBA tools help you?

There is no “one size fits all” approach when it comes to a complex peril like flood. JBA is committed to working with organisations to produce bespoke solutions for their individual needs and our flood data can be used in a number of ways.

Results may be used to select anticipatory actions such as preemptive relocation of assets or aid, selective evacuations and construction of temporary flood defences.

Outputs can also be used in disaster risk financing and parametric insurance schemes to build economic resilience to flooding. Results can be used to set pay-out thresholds to ensure communities receive insurance pay-outs immediately after a flood event when they are most needed. You can explore the importance of risk analytics and risk modelling for disaster risk reduction in more depth in the recent Insurance Development Forum and InsuResilience Global Partnership report, contributed to by JBA.

We also work with local organisations to develop the skills and training required to use the flood data in long-term sustainability strategies.
